Ten reasons why High Definition DVD formats have already failed - An Audioholics article written by Clint DeBoer

Westinghouse LTV-32w6 HD

We've received a lot of email asking about the Westinghouse line of TVs. So for today's show we take a look at the Westinghouse LTV-32W6 32 inch LCD TV.  The 32W6 is a 720p TV priced at about $900. If there is more interest in this line we'll try to get a hold of their 1080p TV for a future review. It has an HDMI input that is HDCP compliant, Component, and VGA along with the typical analog connections. An ATSC tuner is also included. The TV has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, which by today's standard seems about average. When compared side by side with our reference TVs, a DLP and Plasma, we found that there was some noticeable loss of detail. However, when viewed by itself you didn't notice to the point where you would say the picture didn't look good.

Color's are not as vivid as other TV's we have reviewed. Off angle viewing was pretty good though. Its not as good as TV's with in-plane switching but better than a lot of other LCDs we have seen. Blacks were good for a LCD. Bright scenes is where this TV performed well. While watching any sporting especially day games you will be quite satisfied with the picture. This TV was not any more or less to compression artifacts than the other TVs we have reviewed. While bright scenes did well dark scenes lost detail. It was noticeable in movies like Batman.

Standard definition TV was OK. Nothing great. You can read text on the screen even though it was a bit on the blurry side. It was watchable though. The audio produced by the speakers is not bad. If you are using this TV as your main unit it won't matter because you'll plug it into your home theater. If its a secondary TV the sound won't blow you away but its adequate. The menus are simple to operate and we recommend changing the factory settings even though the default on this TV is not as offensive as others we have seen. The remote is basic and was immediately eliminated by using our universal remote. This TV can easily be mounted to a wall and has easy access to the ports. Westinghouse call their input access approach "Spine Design". The TV weighs 37 pounds ( 16.8 Kgs) and measures 31.4 X 25.2 X 8.3 inches (79.75 X 64 X 21 cm). All measurements are with the base.

Conclusion:
If you are looking for a way to get into the HDTV game without breaking the bank, this TV is for you! Just a couple of hundred dollars more than a tube based HDTV. But for that price you get the benefits of a TV that can be mounted to a wall. HDTV performance will not disappoint, Standard definition may.

What we liked:
Great price!
Great looking cabinet design
Decent picture
Good off angle viewing
ATSC Tuner
HDMI with HDCP clearly mentioned.

We didn't like:
Colors not on par with others in size class
Less detail than compeitors
Format Control
