If you just have too many hours in the day (and too much money) DirectTV has something for you. TITANIUM is the ultimate TV package but it comes at a price, $7500 a year!
Today's Show:
We discuss an article written by TV industry expert Peter Putman that explains why your brand new HDTV has issues. We also talk about setting up a theater in your backyard for some Summer fun.
Outdoor Theater Follow Up
We did a segment last year on
building a backyard theater for summer HDTV and movies. If you're not
too concerned about watching TV, and you'd like to have a fun outdoor
lounge-chair theater experience, we've found some products that might
really make your day.
First off, the screen. Storing a big
projector screen isn't easy, and permanently mounting one outside isn't
practical for most people, so why not buy an inflatable screen.
Brookstone offers an 8 foot by 7 foot inflatable screen for just under
one thousand dollars. It inflates in less than five minutes with the
included pump, and can be stored in a small bag the size of a gym bag.
There are other options, but the Brookstone model offers a nice price
to feature ratio.
Secondly, the electronics. Here's where the "if you're not too
concerned about watching TV" comes in. All you need is one of the DVD
projectors that are on the market today, such as the Radio Shack
Cinego, the Optoma DV10, or the Epson MovieMate 25 and you're done. We
had a chance to play with the Radio Shack cinego a few months ago and
had a really fun time with it. Our unit was quirky, but we've heard
from listeners that their Cinegos work great, so it must have just been
our unit. But combine one of those projectors with the inflatable
screen, and for under $2000 you have a fully functional, take it
anywhere, outdoor theater. Pretty cool.
